Vector Art is a technique, not a style.
Often, when a business begins a process of submitting a design for printing, (Usually silk screen printing) there is confusion regarding the type of art that the printer needs to receive from them.

It seems like the confusion center's around vector graphics files. Most people who are not graphic designers don't know what vector art is. There are even some people working in the industry as graphic designers, who don't know what vector graphics are.

Vector art is computer generated art created in vector based program's like Adobe Illustrator, Freehand, and Corel Draw, among others. The art consists of creating paths and points, also referred as "outlines" or "curves".

The program keeps track of the relationships between these points and paths. Vectors are any scaleable objects that keeps their proportions and quality when size d up or down. They're defined as solid objects, and can be moved around in full, or grouped together with other objects. Vectors can be defined by mathematical and numeric data.

All vector based art we create is created in Adobe Illustrator and is usually saved as a .ai type file.

Since most of our customers do not have Adobe Illustrator, the file can also be saved in other formats for our customers such as .eps or .pdf. But, just because a file is saved in one of these formats, does not mean that it is a vector file. Only art created in a vector based program, is truly vector art.

In the following graphic, we will show you the difference between Vector art and the other kind of computer graphic, Raster art:

Notice how, in the Raster graphic, the edges become "pixelated" when the graphic is enlarged. While the vector graphics edge is nice and sharp.
Raster Graphics, such as photographs created in Adobe Photoshop, may be used for some screenprinting applications, such as printing one-color pen and ink drawings. But if your going to print something like a logo, you will need Vector art file to achieve the proper print.

If you discover that your logo or art is a non-vector file and you need vector art, hire TUF Designs to re-create your design as vector art. We will provide you with the art in both vector and raster formats.

We have over 15 years of experience in creating vector art and illustrations. Designing logos, T-Shirt art, and other illustrations for companies all over the country!

We also offer our services to other silk screening businesses.

We often get approached by other silk screening companies to clean up poor quality images or convert raster images to vectors. This is our specialty! If you are a silk screener and need some art cleaned up or re-created, give us call! Depending on complexity of the art.
